A new name has emerged in Celtic's quest to find a replacement for Joe Hart.

Hart, 37, has been the Hoops' undisputed number one goalkeeper since making the switch to Glasgow from Tottenham Hotspur three years ago. But the former England international is set to retire this summer, leaving huge gloves to fill.

Back-up 'keepers Scott Bain and Benjamin Siegrist plus youngsters Tobi Oluwayemi and Josh Clarke are the next in line. However, it's unclear where their future lies.

Celtic have previously been linked with Liverpool deputy, Caoimhin Kelleher, and Leicester City title-winner, Kasper Schmeichel.

Now, Brendan Rodgers' side are believed to be monitoring Aston Villa shot-stopper, Viljami Sinisalo, although they are set for competition from numerous English Football League clubs vying for the Finnish internationals signature.

Sinisalo, 22, has only ever played U21's football for Aston Villa, yet he is no stranger to Scottish football, having spent the 2020/21 campaign on-loan at Ayr United.

His latest spell away from Villa Park saw the Finn impress with Exeter City. He kept 13 clean sheets from 45 appearances in English League One, and helped the Grecians consolidate a mid-table position.

That form, which he has dubbed as "the best year of my footballing life" also earned him six awards at the clubs recent Player of the Year dinner.

Celtic boss, Rodgers, has hinted that he would like to sign two goalkeepers during the close-season to allow them to battle it out for a starting slot.

And it's thought that Sinisalo, who has a year left on his current contract, could be lured away from the Midlands for a free of around £3million.
