This year’s Only Sport Scottish Amateur Cup Final will see holders, Cupar Hearts (Kingdom of Fife AFA) defend the trophy against Garrowhill Thistle (Greater Glasgow Premier League) at Hampden on the evening of Thursday 16 May.

Cupar and Garrowhill progressed to the showcase event after this week’s pulsating semi-final ties, both played in front of large and appreciative crowds.

New Douglas Park, Hamilton hosted Monday’s game between Garrowhill Thistle and Sandys (Lothian and Edinburgh AFA). A penalty kick early in the second half was enough to earn the Baillieston-based side a 1-0 win.

In a repeat of last year’s final, Cupar Hearts again came out on top over Steins Thistle (Scottish Premier AFA) - a side very much in form after recently winning this year’s East of Scotland Amateur Cup.

At Falkirk Stadium on Friday evening, Cupar struck twice in 7 minutes at the start of the second half to give them a 2-0 lead. The Fife side held off a late surge from Steins to secure a return visit to Hampden.

All roads now lead to Hampden on 16 May for these top clubs.

After making it through 8 arduous Rounds, both sides thoroughly deserve their place in the Final. Cupar Hearts will be aiming to be the first team in many a year to record back-to-back wins. Garrowhill Thistle will be looking to record their first Scottish Cup triumph.

An intriguing Final lies ahead, with the biggest prize in Scottish Amateur Football now tantanisingly close for Cupar Hearts and Garrowhill Thistle.
