CELTIC winger Patrick Roberts has revealed that he was surprised when he witnessed the state of Partick Thistle's changing rooms during his first away trip as a Hoops player.

The 19-year-old arrived at Parkhead on loan in January from billionaire-backed Premier League club Manchester City, but was brought to earth by the facilities at Firhill after moving north of the border.

“I was surprised with the dressing room,” he told this week's Celtic View.

“It was one of my first away games. It was different from what I’d seen at changing rooms before at City and Fulham.

“I think Callum McGregor scored and we won 2-1. I’ve never played them but facing a new team is an opportunity.

"It’s another game and another chance to show everyone what you can do, score goals and win the game, which is most important."

Roberts insists he is expecting a tough challenge from the Hoops' Glasgow neighbours when they meet in front of the television cameras in Friday's Premiership clash.

"Most teams in the league know our style by now but it’s the first time we’ve played them this season and they’ll be right at it knowing Celtic are coming, especially on a Friday night on TV," Roberts said.

“They’ll want to show themselves and that can be tough. We played Kilmarnock away on a Friday night a few weeks ago and scraped a 1-0 win so they’ll be tough and it’ll be another team I’ve played.

“It’s all about putting points on the board. If people keep dropping points below us and we keep winning it’ll be very tough to catch us but that’s all up to us and we have to keep playing the way we are and keep getting results.

"It’s the only thing we can do on our part and when we come up against teams like Partick Thistle who’ll try to stop us we have to overcome that.

“You can see by the games we’ve been dominating and scoring a lot of goals while conceding very few.

"That’s only good if it lasts the whole season so we have to keep doing it and carry it through to the end and hopefully be champions at the end.”
