MARK WARBURTON reckons Hearts will adopt the same game plan that earned them victory over Rangers at Tynecastle when they head to Ibrox this weekend.

And the Light Blues boss has challenged his players to deliver their own repeat performance as they bid to follow up Saturday’s win over Aberdeen.

Rangers crashed to a 2-0 defeat in what proved to be Robbie Neilson’s last game in charge of the Jambos last week as they suffered another Premiership blow.

The Gers bounced back with victory over the Dons on Saturday and will now host the Jambos as Ian Cathro takes to the dugout for the first time as boss.

Warburton said: “You have to think that they will play a very similar game, they were quite rightly successful at Tynecastle, what we have to do is find solutions.

“I don’t know much about Ian Cathro, I know he is highly thought of but no more than that.

“If you are there for a week, I imagine if I was Ian I would do very much the same as the previous week when they have won the game 2-0 at Tynecastle, you’d want to try and repeat that.

“If you looked at the stats of manager’s first games then people listen to what they want to listen to, if you took a 100 first games it wouldn’t be a vital stat. People take one or two games and use it as an example.

“Our job is to focus on Rangers and do what we do better, learn from last week, learn from Saturday as well and deliver a performance is what is a very important fixture.

“We are at home off the back of a good performance, we are second in the league and we want to reinforce that and send the crowd home happy again.

“We do that by being positive, getting on the football and doing everything we did on Saturday and hopefully adding some more quality balls in there as well.

“The fans will be crucial, our home record is very strong and very solid and a big part of that is down to the backing.

“The atmosphere on Saturday was outstanding, now our job, of course, is to earn that type of support and I hope the fans can see what we are trying to do.”

Rangers turned in one of their poorest performances of the campaign as they were well beaten at Tynecastle and Robbie Muirhead hit a double in a comfortable win for Hearts.

Boss Warburton was upset with some of the comments directed towards his side before the Dons showdown and is pleased his side were able to silence their critics with an important Premiership success.

“We had a bad day at Tynecastle, no doubt about that and questions were asked and the boys responded to that and did magnificently well,” he told RangersTV.

“The effort and the character they displayed was first class. There has never been a doubt about their character, their commitment and their work ethic or their desire.

“I read some stories which before Saturday irked us as staff absolutely but more than irked the players.

“When you’ve had a bad game the best thing you can do is put your hand up and say “We weren’t good enough on that particular occasion.” You don’t make excuses.

“The response was required, as was the level of performance and it was a very valuable three points.

“Irrespective of the criticism you are playing Aberdeen at home, it is a packed Ibrox, there is no need for motivation but as I said the players and staff were irked by certain comments and suggestions.

“Was it our best performance in terms of football, far from it, but we showed some great qualities and we battled and we knew we had to in terms of physicality and we deserved the win.”
