A car fire on Glasgow's M8 motorway this morning sparked an emergency response.

The incident took place between Junctions 11 and 12 - the Stepps Road Interchange and Cumbernauld Road Interchange - at around 11am on Friday, May 10.

After receiving a report of the blaze, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service sent two fire trucks to the scene.

999 crews then worked to tackle the fire and make the area safe.

Luckily, no one was injured during the incident.

During the fire, Traffic Scotland said the eastbound carriageway was 'restricted'.

However, disruption caused by the incident was cleared shortly after 12pm.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Around 11.05am on Friday, May 10, 2024, officers received a report of a vehicle on fire on the M8 near junction 11.

“Arrangements were made for the vehicle to be recovered.”

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service added: "We were alerted at 10.59am on Friday, May 10, to reports of a car on fire on the M8 Eastbound, between junctions 11 and 12.

"Operations control mobilised two appliances to the scene, where firefighters extinguished the fire and worked to make the area safe.

"There were no casualties."
