A busy Glasgow swimming pool is set to close for three months.

Glasgow Club Gorbals regularly welcomes around 1500 visitors every week and has become a 'well-used' local pool since it opened in 2000.

Now Glasgow Life has revealed it plans to carry out a refurbishment of the pool filtration system as part of essential maintenance of the pool.

This means the pool will be closed from Monday, April 8 with work expected to last three months.

It is hoped that the pool's reopening will be timed with the most of the school summer holidays.

A spokesperson for Glasgow Life said "The swimming pool at Glasgow Club Gorbals opened in 2000. It quickly became a well-used local pool, attracting over 1,500 visitors per week.

"As with any swimming pool, continued investment is required to deliver a more comfortable environment for swimmers and support the long-term provision of well-maintained health and fitness centres across the city.

"A programme of essential maintenance work is planned for Glasgow Club Gorbals, which will include the refurbishment of the pool filtration system.

"This is estimated to take three months, with work due to start on Monday, April 8, 2024, and will require the pool to be closed.

"It is expected to reopen very early in July, ensuring it is open for most of the school summer break when usage is particularly busy. No other facilities offered at Glasgow Club Gorbals will be affected.

"This investment will ensure Glasgow Club Gorbals will be able to continue playing a vital role for swimming provision in the city for the future."
