Verdict: Three and a half stars.
US superstar Ne-Yo proved why he was one of the biggest R’n’B stars of the noughties by putting on a spectacular show at Glasgow’s Hydro on Monday night.
The 44-year-old singer-songwriter was welcomed to the Finnieston stage by the hyper audience who screamed into a frenzy as he opened up his set with the dancefloor anthem Closer.
Pulling off slick dance moves and dressed head to toe in red with his signature hat, the star then launched into the funky Because of You.
He said with a smile: “Greetings and salutations everyone. I go by the name of Ne-Yo.”

Responsible for some of the biggest hits in an era of music which saw artists such as Usher, Chris Brown, Rihanna and Beyoncé dominate the charts and clubs, Ne-Yo’s set was packed with nostalgia from start to finish with the smooth Sexy Love among the songs which delighted fans.
Earlier in the evening, fellow US singer Mario impressed fans with a performance of his global hit Let Me Love You, a song which Ne-Yo penned.
As a songwriter, he also gifted Beyoncé with Irreplaceable, Keri Hilson with Knock You Down and Rhianna with Take a Bow, all tracks within the genre that have stood the test of time and captured admiration from a new generation of fans.
His 2005 breakthrough So Sick proved to be a highlight with his fans singing in unison and marvelling at the soulfulness of his voice.
Taken aback by the reception to the song, the singer - whose real name is Shaffer Smith - said: “To think after almost 20 years, y’all still rocking with the song like that.”
A born entertainer, he commanded the attention of the audience throughout his set and mastered the balance between creative choreography and strong vocals.
Ending things on a high with Miss Independent, Beautiful Monster and Let Me Love You (Until You Love Yourself), Ne-Yo teased his way through his back catalogue before dropping his biggest dance tracks including that global chart-topper with Afrojack, Nayer and Pitbull, Give Me Everything.
