David Hayman has won a top theatre award for his portrayal of northern Irishman, Eric, in the acclaimed play Cyprus Avenue.
The play, at the Tron Theatre earlier this year, was described as “powerful and troubling” and Hayman’s performance was the centerpiece.
Hayman was awarded for a performance that was lauded as “funny, moving and terrifying in equal measures” in the Andy Arnold production of David Ireland’s play about a middle-aged man struggling with his identity as the country adapts to changes after the Good Friday Agreement.

The multi-award-winning Glasgow actor won the Outstanding Performance category at the Critics’ Awards for Theatre in Scotland (CATS).
Hayman played Eric, an unreconstructed loyalist in Belfast who believes his newborn granddaughter is former Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams.
Scots Squad actress, Sally Reid, also won an outstanding performance award for her performance as Shirley Valentine in Pitlochry Festival Theatre’s production of the Willy Russell classic described as “unaffected honesty and emotional truth”.
A special ‘CATS Whiskers’ award recognising outstanding contribution to Scottish Theatre went to The Cheviot, The Stag and the Black, Black Oil, to mark 50 years since the first production.
