Police in the city centre cordoned off a busy street following a robbery on Monday night.

An area stretching from Buchanan Street to Sauchiehall Street was closed to the public after a G4S van was robbed outside the Royal Bank of Scotland on Sauchiehall Street.

A police spokeswoman said: "The incident happened at around 9.50pm on Monday night.

"Nobody was injured as a result of the incident and enquries are continuing."

It is unclear what was taken during the robbery.

Head of Operational Risk for G4S Cash Solutions, Gareth Skinner said: 

"One of our cash crew members was the victim of an attack yesterday on Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow, while servicing a local bank branch.

"Fortunately the crew member has not suffered any injuries but has been badly shaken by the attack. 

"We are working closely with Police Scotland to ensure those behind the attack are brought to justice.”   

Early reports suggested that the van was parked on Buchanan Street, close to Buchanan Gallaries when the thieves struck.

The area was reopened to the public around 9.15am on Tuesday morning.
