CAMPAIGNERS have lost their fight to save a West End bus service from the axe.

They are angry that the 4A was the only direct bus from Kelvindale to Byres Road and the City Centre.

But First Glasgow has pressed ahead with the decision to scrap the route.
Maryhill and Springburn MSP Bob Doris contacted the bus operator in the hope of getting the decision reversed.

He said: “I am disappointed if not surprised by the confirmation the service was withdrawn on Sunday. I had hoped my intervention with the managing director of First Group might have delivered a last minute reprieve but it wasn’t to be.

“The only glimmer of hope is that he has committed to look at my suggestion, made directly to him, of an alternative bus service for the area.

“My suggestions have been informed by the many local residents who have contacted me and told their stories of the kind of transport links the area needs as well as how the route could be improved to drive up demand.

“Who knows better the transport needs of a community than the residents that stay there and I very much hope First Group will ensure First Glasgow will listen”.

“We have lost the 4A but the campaign for an improved service for Kelvindale continues.”

More than 1000 people signed a petition calling for the 4A service to be retained.
