The mother of an 11-year-old boy hit by a bottle on his way to the Old Firm match has hit out at the thug responsible.

11-year-old Rangers fan Kraig Mackay never made it to his first ever Old Firm match after receiving a nasty gash on his head while walking to Hampden.

Laura, 30, told the Daily Record, "I am livid.

"Someone needs to be punished for this and maybe make the fan think twice about doing something like this again.

"Maybe he has a kid himself. I want him to see the state Kraig was in.

"How would he feel if this was his boy?"

Kraig's Aunt Shona condemned the fans responsible on Facebook:

She said: "It's a terrible day when two sets of supporters can't put their differences behind them and come together to support their teams in peace.

"What was a peaceful walk to Hampden turned into a police horse kicking off and knocking me to the ground, followed by a glass bottle being thrown across the road by Celtic fans and hitting Marc's nephew on the head.

"Religion, hatred and anything else should never be brought into it, especially when families and kids are involved. You should never head out to a football match and feel as terrified as we did this afternoon."

Police Scotland confirmed eighteen men have been arrested following the Scottish League Cup semi-final between Rangers and Celtic.

All of the arrests were made in or around Hampden Park in Glasgow, where the Old Firm match took place.

Reports will be submitted to the procurator fiscal and the pair are expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court today.

A further 16 men, aged between 17 and 68, were arrested for minor public order offences.
