COPS investigating a rubbish bin fire in a town centre car park say it was deliberate.

The rubbish bin was set alight in the car park at Sturrock Street close to Kilmarnock town centre between 6pm on Sunday, August 21 and 8am on Monday, August 22.

Police say the fire has destroyed the refuse bin and caused damage to a property on King Street which backs onto the car park.

Safer Communities officer PC Marshall said: "Fire is very unpredictable, I would appeal to those responsible to think of the consequences of their actions and how this type of behaviour can affect homes and businesses.

"A joint investigation between Scottish Fire Service and Police Scotland is underway and I would encourage anyone who knows the identity of those responsible or have any information to contact Police."

Police Scotland can be contacted on 101 (in an emergency always dial 999) or alternatively call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where anonymity can be maintained.
