Race organisers who refused to return money to competitors after switching the event from Glasgow to Stirling have finally coughed up the cash.

Runners who were looking forward to the Wineathlon Glasgow event were left amazed when the Greater Glasgow and Clyde health board objected to it being hosted in their area.

Despite the venue switch, the organisers had continued promoting the race as a Glasgow event.

Those involved in the 10k race are given wine instead of water during rest stops.

Earlier this year the Evening Times revealed plans by a Manchester-based firm to host a Wineathlon in the city, following other events held south of the border.

While the quirky event was welcomed by wine-loving running enthusiasts, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde had said it would "contest any application" on health grounds.

The Daily Record reports that organisers have finally refunded angry competitiors their money after the race was moved 25 miles outside of Glasgow.

The main issue with the venue switch was that competitors would be unable to drive home after consuming wine and would have to rely on public transport.
